5 The 1978 World Tour

5.1 Introduction

The World Tour 1978 consisted of four parts:

1. The Far East Tour in February-March
2. The “warm-up” shows in Los Angeles in early June
3. The European Tour in June-July
4. The US Tour in September-December.

5.2 The show

A concert during the 1978 World Tour consisted of two sets.

Set 1	Instrumental opener without Bob Dylan (most shows)
	Circa 12 songs by Bob Dylan and the band
Set 2	Instrumental opener without Bob Dylan (most shows in Far East and Europe, some shows in US)
	Circa 15 songs by Bob Dylan and the band.
Encore	1 song by Bob Dylan and the band.

Show time varied between two and two and a half hours.

None, really! At Budokan is a good documentation of this first part of the tour, and it was all to be so much better later on!!

Some very unusual covers were performed:

Repossession Blues by Roland James - there is also a great rehearsal version!!

I'm A Steady Rolling Man by Robert Johnson

Lonesome Bedroom by Ernest "Buddy" Wilson.

None of these have re-appeared in concert.
